a little bit about

Caroline perlman

Caroline has had an ingrained passion for horses from the time she could walk. As a junior, Caroline earned her horse time as a groom and exercise rider, progressing through the years to eventually work for Canadian Team rider, Torchy Miller. Her Wall Street career afforded her the ability to purchase her own horses and she competed successfully for over 20 years in the top ranks as an Amateur in both the jumpers and the hunters. She has been privileged to work with many industry professionals and counts Harold Chopping and Brandie Holloway as her principal mentors who continue to guide her since turning professional.

Caroline Perlman

Kim grew up riding horses and achieved top five finishes in the Medal, Maclay and USET finals under the training of Hunterdon where he met his long-term mentor, 5-time Olympian Anne Kursinski. Kim then turned professional, developed young hunters for private owners and competed in the jumpers through Grand Prix level. Kim established Riverstone in 1993 and has spent decades developing a training program that focuses on the careful management of horse, rider safety and education and true horsemanship, the combination of which has resulted in consistent success in the show ring.

In addition to training clients, Kim has also been a show manager and run some of the largest horse shows in the Northeast including the North Fork Classic; Ox Ridge Charity Show; and Princeton Show Jumping. As a respected professional in the business, Kim is in demand as a clinician, speaker and coach for many of today’s top Grand Prix riders.

Together with his wife Caroline, Kim has designed and built two facilities to support the boarding, full care and training of client and investment horses. Riverstone North and South each provide ample turnout and an idyllic private training setting. Kim can often be found in the round pen working with young horses when not at horse shows or hosting clinics.

A daughter of a British army officer, Caroline was born in Westphalia, Germany, returned to England and then emigrated to Ontario, Canada where she graduated from the University of Western Ontario, Richard Ivey School of Business in 1993. Recruited immediately by Credit Suisse First Boston, Caroline moved to Manhattan where she pursued a career as an investment banker for ten years.

Caroline left Wall Street in 2002 to partner with Kim Perlman and build Riverstone together. She focused on breeding, importing and developing young horses, continuing as an amateur until she turned professional in 2014. As a trainer, Caroline brings her unique perspective to Riverstone’s clients as she personally understands the inner workings of the amateur rider and their needs and expectations as a client. Caroline enjoys developing young horses, matching horse / rider combinations and sharing her knowledge with clients.

After college, Alexa worked for various industry professionals as a top show groom and progressed to Barn Manager. In 2016, she became an Equine Veterinary Technician for Team Barber and Miller & Associates. Alexa continued on to become an Equine Radiology Technician for the industry’s top radiologist, Dr. Natasha Werpy. Upon relocating to Williston, Florida and bringing her tremendous depth of experience in all fields of horse care, Alexa joined the Riverstone family and currently manages Riverstone South year-round.

Ismael has spent the last two decades at Riverstone refining and broadening his horsemanship skills and is now Head Groom and Barn Manager of our northern location. With Ismael at the helm, Riverstone has built a team of long-term employees who are firmly committed to bringing out the best in our horses. Over the years, Ismael has prepared top winning ponies through Grand Prix horses and helped break Riverstone’s young horses.
